2023 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge – Body Shop
Welcome to the third update in our entry to the 2023 Porsche Restoration Challenge!
Previously we took the engine and transmission out and prepped it for the body shop(https://www.autobahnporsche.com/journal/2023-porsche-classic-restoration-challenge-engine-out/)… and today, the 1978 Porsche 911SC Targa is officially at the body shop!
For this process, we’ve trusted the great folks next door at Caliber Collision here in Fort Worth. Caliber is a stone’s throw away from Autobahn and is our partner in body work done on our customer’s vehicles. On top of our trust in Caliber, they are also a Porsche Approved Collision Center with staff who regularly take part in Porsche training sessions along with Autobahn Porsche staff.
Upon arrival at Caliber, they went through a top-to-bottom inspection of the 911SC and found a vehicle in excellent yet imperfect condition. A few spots had inferior repairs, damaged paint resulting from the car’s age, and more details that held the 911SC back from being a perfect car. However, under Caliber, this 911SC will also get the highest level of detail and care, resulting in a fantastic restoration once it is complete.
And with that, the restoration is really in full swing! More parts are coming in by the day, the mechanical bits are getting the love they deserve, and the body is on its way to near-factory spec. We’ve got another update coming soon, so stay tuned for that!
