Autobahn Porsche - 2023 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge - First Step

Welcome to the first update on our entry for the 2023 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge!

In our previous post (https://www.autobahnporsche.com/journal/2023-porsche-classic-restoration-challenge-intro/), we revealed our entry and posted pictures of our 1978 911SC, showing the current condition of the vehicle. Today, we will go over the car and see what needs to be done.

We’ll start with the exterior and interior. The previous owner definitely loved this ’78 911SC. Most of the body is in good shape, and despite its age, the red paint is still a head turner. The interior is also in decent shape, with lots of patina to go around but nothing that can’t be restored with some elbow grease. Upon taking delivery of the vehicle, Zoran, our Porsche GM, said: “This 1978 911SC is an outstanding example and one that definitely deserves a proper restoration.”

Jeff, our Porsche Master Technician, echoed the same sentiments: “The engine of this 911SC is in good shape! Of course, like any project, there’s lots of things to consider, but ultimately we’re going to bring this 911SC back to Porsche spec, as if it came out of the factory in Stuttgart back then.”

With our assessment complete, we’ve taken the next step to figuring out what needs to be done on the vehicle. Parts have been ordered across the globe, and work has been going in earnest on this 1978 911SC. For now though, take a detailed look at the pictures of the bones of this 911SC.

Here’s a little teaser for our next update:
